Backend Developer (Golang) – Speaksee

Overview

Speaksee is a fast-growing social impact scale-up in Rotterdam. We develop solutions that make conversations accessible for the Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and non-native speakers.

Our flagship product is the Speaksee Microphone Kit – the world’s first microphone system that accurately subtitles and translates group conversations into 40+ languages. It’s already reimbursed by major health insurers in the Netherlands and trusted by leading organizations like PwC, KPN, Rabobank, UWV, and the Municipality of Rotterdam.

The Role

We’re looking for a motivated Backend Software Engineer (Golang) who wants to use their skills to make a positive social impact.

You’ll join a small backend team (3 engineers) and work closely together to design, build, and maintain the systems that power our real-time transcription and translation services.

What You’ll Work On

• Improving real-time transcription and translation services to enhance accessibility

• Building new features for our AI-driven transcription engine (improving accuracy & speed)

• Optimizing data processing pipelines for live voice-to-text

• Developing APIs that power our frontend, mobile app, and hardware

• Improving infrastructure & deployment pipelines for smoother customer experiences

What We’re Looking For

• Enthusiastic, eager to learn, and intrinsically motivated

• Proven experience bringing projects into production

• Willingness to take full responsibility for results

• 3+ years of backend development experience

• Available 32–40 hours/week

• Excellent communication skills (English and/or Dutch)

• Able to work from our Rotterdam office at least 2 days/week

Must-Have Skills

• Golang (primary backend language)

• Linux systems

• Docker (containerization & orchestration)

• PostgreSQL and/or MySQL

• RESTful API design

• Git (version control)

• CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD)

Nice-to-Have Skills (or learn on the job)

• Python (internal tools & special cases)

• AWS cloud infrastructure

• Redis

• Real-time data streaming

• Unit testing experience

• Security knowledge
