Inclusive events at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision: with Soundshape 1 Pro, everyone becomes part of the story
May 10, 2024
At the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, we host two to three events every week, from internal meetings to product launches, symposia, and conferences for external clients. Accessibility is always our top priority. Thanks to the integration of Soundshape 1 Pro in all our venues, every event is now automatically inclusive, multilingual, and barrier-free.
Why we chose Soundshape 1 Pro
Real-time multilingual subtitles
Visitors can choose the language in which they want to follow the presentation, either on their smartphone or on an additional screen. After scanning a QR code, live subtitles or translations of what’s being said appear instantly. This allows everyone to follow the content without barriers.
One system, one shared experience
In the past, we sometimes worked with separate translators or groups, which created a sense of distance. Now, everyone experiences the same story, simultaneously and seamlessly. Speakers don’t have to do anything extra, and the audience stays connected as one.
Ease of use, reliability, and cost savings
The technology is intuitive, with no complex installation or lengthy instructions required. During our events, everything runs smoothly without glitches or delays. What’s more, Soundshape 1 Pro saves costs, since we no longer need to hire external translators or expensive interpretation setups. That means less backstage coordination and more focus on content.
“Soundshape 1 Pro makes our events not only more inclusive but also more efficient,” says Hylke Thiry, responsible for venue rental at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. “We save time, money, and technical effort, while the experience for visitors becomes even richer.”
Standard integration in all our venues
We decided to integrate Soundshape 1 Pro as a standard feature in all our spaces. This means that every event, large or small, is instantly accessible.
“Accessibility shouldn’t be something special; it should be self-evident,” Thiry adds. “Whether it’s a conference, a film screening, or a brainstorming session, everyone should be included.”
Inclusivity, for us, isn’t an add-on; it’s a core part of our service. Whether it’s a public event, symposium, or internal session, everyone can participate and follow along in the language that suits them best.
Our experience in practice
We’ve noticed that visitors from diverse language backgrounds now participate actively and truly feel part of the experience. They tell us they feel welcome and that their contributions matter. Technically, everything runs flawlessly; the system is stable and reliable.
“The best part is seeing people relax once they realize they can follow everything,” Thiry says. “That moment when barriers disappear, that’s what it’s all about.”
Moving forward together
With Soundshape 1 Pro, we’re taking a firm step toward a future that’s both inclusive and efficient. This ensures that the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision remains a place where everyone feels welcome, heard, and connected at every event, week after week.
